Featured Gem AQUAMARINE
aquamarine

It’s the color of the sea, and that’s where it derives its name from, too. Aquamarine, March’s birthstone, is typically a bluish-green color, but some may lean more towards pure blue or green. It is a member of the beryl mineral family and has been known to form extraordinarily large crystals. Aquamarine was once carried as a protective stone by sailors who believed it had the power to calm seas. Though we now know it doesn’t have this power, some people still perceive it as a symbol of tranquility.

BIRTHSTONE: MARCH
overview
In Latin the word aquamarine means seawater, aqua means water and marine means “of the sea.” This particular stone was believed to keep the sea calm, so sailors would wear it to have a safe, uneventful trip. This gem is also believed to keep marriages happy, so you will oftentimes find women wearing it to keep their relationship happy. It is the stone associated with the 19th wedding anniversary.
